How To Skateboard For Beginners

Skateboarding has always looked like a ton of fun.  It is always hard watching friends on their skateboards whizzing down the street or the guys and girls on television showing off amazing moves on television.  Skateboarding may have seemed like such an amazing time that many people are becoming more and more interested in learning how to skateboard.  As people watch skateboarders whiz around the streets and on tracks it may seem pretty easy, however, once a person gets on a skateboard, they will find that it is a lot harder then it may appear.  It can be rather discouraging to get on a skateboard and keep falling or finding that balancing is not your friend.  However, do not let this discourage you from learning how to skate.  In this article I will go through a step by step guide on how to skateboard fro beginners. This guide will have people skateboarding with the best of them in no time.

Gear

Skateboard gear is really important and essential to all skateboarders.

One of the first things that a person will need to do when trying to learn how to skateboard for beginners is to understand what  gear they will need to wear.  It is smart to be well protected when on a skateboard therefore the best way to be well protected is to make sure that you are wearing all of the appropriate gear.  Skateboarders must ensure their safety by wearing the appropriate shoes, pants, pads and helmet.

One of the first things that a person will need to look for is the appropriate skateboarding shoes.  Skateboarding shoes are made to be completely flat on the bottoms so that they grip the skateboard and allow people to stand flush on the board therefore allowing them to have the best grip and balance. When people try skateboarding with sneakers they will find that the arch messes with the balance and they will not be as steady.

The next thing that people need to get is a helmet.  It is extremely important that people make sure to wear their helmet. I know that some may not think that it is that cool, however, it can save some one's life.  Wearing a helmet has saved millions of people from serious injuries each and every year. Skateboarding may not seem that dangerous, however taking a fall from a ramp or from some stairs has left many guys and girls in the hospital with concussions or worse.  It is better to be safe then sorry, so make sure to wear a helmet when skating.

Another thing that people need to not forget is to make sure to wear protective gear. This means that people will need to make sure to wear protective pads on their elbows and knees. Elbow and knee pads will ensure that a person is being safe and will not harm themselves anymore when they are on their skateboards.  It is really important for people to make sure they are safe when they are on a skateboard so therefore, wearing pads is essential.

Balancing

Balancing on a skateboard will help a person learn how to skate.

The next step is learning how to balance. Ninety percent of learning how to skateboard for beginners is balancing. The best skateboarders have the best balance.  Balancing on the skateboard allows a person to become comfortable with the skateboard as well as allowing them to become comfortable learning how to skate.  The best way to learn how to balance and become comfortable with the skateboard is by standing on it while it is on some grass or the carper.  Stand on the skateboard become comfortable with the spacing and how it moves. This will help a person to really get on the board and know the balance of the board when they go for a ride.

Riding

Once a person has become comfortable on their skateboard it is time take the skateboard to more concrete areas.  The best place to go is a place where the concrete is smoother and free of debris as well as cars and other people to run into.  Once you have found that space place the skateboard on the ground and put your foot on the front part of the skateboard either right behind the wheels or where the wheels are, whichever is more comfortable.  Once your foot is on the board and you are balanced, take the back foot and push off so that the skateboard begins to propel forward.  A person may need to push off a couple times to get the skateboard moving straight ahead. Once the skateboard begins to move slowly bring the back leg up and place it on the board. This may take a few times or more for people to keep doing.  Keep repeating this over and over again until you have become comfortable getting on the skateboard and pushing off to keep going, however try to push off while skating when you feel it slowing down and keep doing that until you master it as well.

Once skating in a straight line has been mastered it is time to learn how to turn.  Turning can be done a couple of ways. A person can simply try leaning in the direction they want to go and the board will go with that direction.  Another way is by putting more of your weight on the back wheels and turning the front of the board by swinging your weight and making it go the direction you want it to.  Turning may seem difficult, however as long as you keep trying it will become more and more easy.

The most important thing about skateboarding is remembering to keep going and keep trying.  It is important that people never give up and if you fall down, which you will, to keep getting up and trying again.
